Reducing Energy Consumption
Every company has a role to play in making the world a better place, especially when it comes to the environment.
Toward this end, TSMC has implemented over 500 energy-saving measures.
Here are a few of the outcomes —
160,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions eliminated.
$26.6 million in utility fees saved.
Potential external carbon costs reduced by $8.5 million.
The following infographic provides another look at our continual push to advance sustainability.
Sustainability and innovation go hand-in-hand in our engineering jobs.
As J.K. Wang, our senior VP over fab operations, puts it:
“Green manufacturing is the cornerstone of sustainable operations. While pursuing technological innovations, TSMC continues to emphasize energy conservation, water conservation, waste reduction, and environmental protection in general.”
We put these words into action. Consider that TSMC is the only semiconductor company chosen for the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices for the past 20 consecutive years.
Not content to rest on our laurels — naturally, they’re green — we have big aspirations.
Like committing to 100% renewable energy and zero indirect carbon emissions from electricity consumption by 2050. We’re one of 284 global companies and the first semiconductor company to join the RE100.
Every step puts us closer to this mission. For example, last summer we signed a deal with Orsted to purchase all the energy from a 920-megawatt offshore wind farm that Orsted is building.

Which brings us back to the core point.
Taking care of the planet is the right thing to do.
